Cane Chair Makeover

It was long past due to freshen up my front porch and give it a face lift.  We don't spend a lot of time out here, but I've always wanted an "Inviting" front porch.  I have had these patio chairs for a few years and they are comfortable but the padding is very faded and not very attractive.  I toyed with the idea of just buying new seat cushions or re-covering these, but couldn't make up my mind what I wanted to do.  So it sat like this for two years.

A few weeks ago I spotted these little gems while browsing an online Facebook yard sale.  I knew somewhere on Pinterest I had seen a cane chair makeover so I messaged the seller and picked them up for $15 for both of them.  I almost changed my mind after I got them home due to having to drive with the windows down because of the overwhelming smoke smell.  But I decided if I couldn't reuse the cushions, I would just buy new foam.
Forgive my lack of pictures for a step by step of how I did all this, but first of all I removed all the material and staples.  I then went to Lowes and found a paint color that spoke to me and painted the chairs.  I used brush on paint, because the choices in spray paint aren't really plentiful.  I then re-covered the bottom, where the springs were with a plain colored material.  I used my Honey's nail gun to tack it in.

I used a hot glue gun to attach coral colored roping to cover the grove.

This was an old wooden stand I've had for years.  It was a dull green color.  I've used it in different places, but decided to use it with my new chairs.  I wanted to work in the coral color so found these small bottles of paint at Hobby lobby.  I believe they were $1.37 each, and I used almost 2 bottles.  I took the seat cushion foam (see the covers under table :-) squirted some Dawn dishsoap on them and put the in the kids splash pool.  The kids walked all around on them and worked the soap and water through them.  I then let them dry in sun for about a week.  They had no smell at all after all of that.

After much agonizing over material choices and multiple trips to JoAnns and Hobby Lobby, I went with these colors.  I really wanted something less busy and a more open pattern but couldn't find anything I liked that had coral and the blue in it.  So for now I'm happy with it.

It's definitely an improvement and much more cheery and happy.  I found the little planter at Lowes.

Finishing our  front door has been on my project list for awhile.  I had put one coat on of a darker teal paint, but wasn't sure it worked.  So I used the leftover paint for my chair project and did a second coat.  It is way brighter and lighter but I really like it.  I have not decided about painting the door molding and trim or the storm door.  Also still thinking about if I want to leave the window trim white.  Feel free to leave your thoughts in the comments.

At some point I would like to do something with the concrete floor.  But that's another project for another day.
